QUT Centre for Justice member, Dr Gina Masterton, has provided commentary about the implications of the wording of the new Family Law Amendment Bill 2023, which makes its optional for judges to examine domestic violence as part of custody matters, as it applies to Hague Convention cases heard in Australia.

Dr Masterton has co-authored a QUT Centre for Justice Briefing Paper examining the experiences of women who have been ‘Hagued’: forced, through a court facilitated process enabled by the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, to return children taking unlawfully across international borders.
