QUT Centre for Justice member, Associate Professor Phoebe Hart is a writer, director and producer of documentaries, factual content and children’s television. She is known particularly for her autobiographical road trip movie, Orchids: My Intersex Adventure. Hart completed her film studies at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 1995. She has worked for Network Ten and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Phoebe has recently published a book titled, Crafting Contemporary Documentaries and Docuseries for Global Screens: Docu-mania which maps the landscape for and current practices of nonfiction filmmakers post-COVID via interviews and subsequent thematic analysis.
The book includes the voices of many award-winning documentarians, including Rintu Thomas, Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering, Peter Murimi, Sara Dosa, Karina Holden, Alessandro Angulo Brandestini, Jessica Lee, Felicity Morris and others, and offers important directions forward for the craft and the industry.
Phoebe regularly writes for The Conversation and recently published an article titled, “A truly international slate: your guide to the 2024 Oscar nominees for best documentary” and “Chemical attraction, a whodunit murder mystery and tensions at the mosque: what we’re streaming this March”
