A new issue of International Journal for Crime, Justice and Social Democracy is now available.
The fourth issue for 2020 is a double issue and includes diverse articles from scholars in the UK, Italy, Canada, Australia and the US.
In two parts, the first part is a special issue: State Violence. Practices and Responses.
Guest Editors Tobia Fattore and Kate Gleeson (Macquarie University, Australia) have curated a collection of papers that highlight the benefits of interdisciplinarity for understanding the complexities of state violence. The authors include legal and political scholars, criminologists, historians, social workers, sociologists, anthropologists and literary theorists, who, by adapting their disciplinary lenses and international perspectives have provided a fulsome understanding of modes of state violence, its effects on citizens and communities, and ways in which civil society and state instrumentalities may aim to prevent, respond to and seek redress and remedies for the injuries inflicted by the state in this threshold year of 2020.
The second part contains general articles including: The rise of hate crimes against dissident groups in Turkey (Barbara Perry, Davut Akca, Fatih Karakus and Mehmet Bastug); a recount of the 2004 Kilwa massacre in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) through a decolonial perspective (Kim Lah and Anthony Collins); an example of corporate ‘greenwashing’ in Canada (James Gacek), and; the disclosure of sexual violence via digital platforms and social media to further victim advocacy (Anna Gjika and Alison Marganski)
As well, included in the book reviews, Jace Valcore reviews Queer Histories and the Politics of Policing.
