Calling all Australian and New Zealand Postgraduate Students!

The Crime and Justice Research Centre (CJRC) at Queensland University of Technology is seeking to sponsor five postgraduate students to attend the Crime, Justice and Social Democracy International Conference and Postgraduate Event, to be held from 8th – 10th July 2015. The Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology (ANZSOC) has generously provided the funding for these sponsorships.

The Postgraduate Event will be held the day before the CJRC’s Crime, Justice and Social Democracy main conference (http://crimejusticeconference.com/), which will bring together distinguished international speakers from around the globe. It will give students a chance to meet with and learn from the distinguished international criminologists who will be speaking at the main conference. The Event will be an exciting opportunity for students to:

  • meet informally with criminologists of international note, to discuss their research and issues relating to the research process;
  • work in groups on topics of relevance to postgraduate students (eg research methodologies, publishing and writing); and
  • build networks with other postgraduate students and criminologists from around the globe.

The successful applicants will be provided with:

  1. Up to AU$750 to offset the costs of travelling to the conference; and
  2. free registration to both the Postgraduate Event and the main Crime, Justice and Social Democracy International Conference.

To be eligible to apply, students must:

  • be enrolled in a postgraduate (master’s or PhD) criminology (or related) degree program at an Australian or New Zealand university outside the greater Brisbane region;
  • be current members of ANZSOC; and
  • provide a 250-word summary of why they would like to participate in the Postgraduate Event, and how their research focus fits with the themes of the conference.

Applications are to be emailed to abstractcrimejustice@qut.edu.au and must include the student’s full name and affiliation by COB 13th April 2015. The successful students will be chosen by the ANZSOC committee. For further details contact Dr Cassandra Cross ca.cross@qut.edu.au.
