Personal Insolvency Conference
Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, 7-9 September 2016
The Commercial and Property Law Research Centre at the QUT Faculty of Law in Brisbane is hosting a 2016 international conference on personal insolvency, ‘A Fresh Look at Fresh Start: The Human Dimension to Bankruptcy.’ An early bird registration fee is available until 15 August 2016. While the current focus in much insolvency scholarship or commentary is upon salvaging economic value for large businesses facing financial collapse, the harsh reality is that many more people experience financial stress as over-indebted consumers or ‘owners’ of micro/small/medium sized enterprises.
The conference will provide a forum for scholars, practitioners and policy-makers to discuss and present on the human experience of bankruptcy and will be opened by Justice Greenwood of the Federal Court of Australia.
Keynote speakers:
- Professor Jay L. Westbrook, Benno C. Schmidt Chair of Business Law, The University of Texas at Austin
- Professor Iain Ramsay, Professor of Law, University of Kent
- David Bergman, National Manager of Insolvency and Trustee Services, Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA)
- Fiona Guthrie, Chief Executive Director, Financial Counselling Australia
Should you wish to attend, day registration is available or you may wish to purchase full registration which can be shared e.g. Thursday by one staff member and Friday by another.
