Prof Michael Flood was recently interviewed by journalist Liz Keen for a new eight-part podcast The Reality of Porn. Formerly of the ABC’s Four Corners and Background Briefing, Keen wanted to make a program that helped listeners understand more about porn while keeping an open mind and allowing the audience to come to its own conclusions. Prof Flood stated ‘Porn is bad for your sex life and it teaches boys and young men and girls and young women some really crappy and ineffective ways to behave and treat the other person in sex”. The podcast also includes interviewees such as parenting expert Maggie Dent, sex therapist Selma van Diest, Scarlet Alliance CEO Mish Pony, as well as researchers and psychologists, and university students vox-popped on campus.
Prof Michael Flood is a leading scholar at Queensland University of Technology and member of QUT Centre for Justice, internationally recognised for his work on men, masculinities, and violence prevention. His research sits at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and interpersonal violence, with a strong focus on engaging men and boys in preventing violence against women and promoting gender equality.
