Research and Impact: Associate Professor Danielle Watson

We are pleased to share that Associate Professor Danielle Watson, Academic Lead – Research in the School of Justice at QUT, and Program Lead, Global Justice, QUT Centre for Justice,  has been invited to present at the inaugural International Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigators Association (IOMGIA) Australasia Training Conference 2025.

The conference, hosted by the NSW Police Force in partnership with IOMGIA, will take place at the Sofitel Darling Harbour, Sydney, from 19–23 October 2025. It marks the first time this prestigious event will be held in Australia and will bring together more than 300 law enforcement officers and prosecutors from across Australia, the Pacific, Asia, North America, Canada and Europe.

Danielle will deliver a one-hour training session based on her UNODC research paper “Organised Motorcycle Gang Activities”, focusing on the drivers and implications of Outlaw Motorcycle Gang expansion in the Pacific.

Danielle was commissioned by the  United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to provide four Briefing Papers which provide timely insights into emerging and under-examined aspects of transnational organized crime (TNOC) across the Pacific region.  The series draws on a combination of desk research and stakeholder conversations to examine the operational reach, systemic impacts and law enforcement challenges associated with evolving TNOC threats.

The paper on Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Activity in the Pacific explores the infiltration and expansion of outlaw motorcycle gangs, highlighting their role in trafficking, violence and cross-border criminal networking.

For access to any of the papers, please contact Matthew Watson matthew.watson@un.org

This recognition highlights Danielle’s ongoing contribution to advancing international knowledge exchange and capacity building on organised crime in the Pacific.
