QUT Centre for Justice member Dr Erin O’Brien, and QUT PhD candidate Justine Coneybeer have published an article in The Conversation about their research into political activism and participation, and how individuals use their consumer and investor power to respond to Russia’s actions.

Erin receives funding from the Australian Research Council through a DECRA Fellowship to study ethical consumerism. Erin’s current research examines political activism and advocacy strategies for social justice, human rights and environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on ethical consumption, political consumerism, and shareholder activism. Erin’s research is concerned with studying the interplay between activists and the state in the construction of knowledge and formation of policy.
Justine researches the Australian Modern Slavery Act and fashion companies’ responsibility for structural injustice. Working as a Research Assistant since 2019, Justine is involved in the Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) funded project “Strategies for improving labour conditions within the Australian cotton value chain”, and has undertaken several political consumerism research projects.
