This year marks the 50th anniversary of Australia lifting the Marriage Bar to allow married women to work in the Commonwealth Public Service.
In Queensland, the bar on married women being employed in public sector took a further three years, and even then, married women still required departmental approval to work after marriage until 1973.
To celebrate this milestone, a free event will be held at Old Government House on Tuesday 17th November 2016 at 10am.
Speakers include Dr. Linda Colley from the Public Service Commission and PhD candidates Melinda Laundon and Penny Williams.
Come along to discuss the many changes that have and have not occurred and acknowledge the women who continue to push the boundaries for gender equity in our society.
Please RSVP by Monday 26th September 2016 to m.crawford@qut.edu.au
