Sponsored by the School of Justice, Harriet Horsfall and Liz Crowe attended the 5th University Scholars Leadership Symposium held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia at the beginning of August. The Symposium featured four days at the Sofitel Phnom Penh, with the opening and closing ceremonies attended by the Deputy Prime-Minister, and Prime Minister of Cambodia. Throughout the Symposium delegates listened to motivational talks from individuals who had received ‘CNN Hero’ accolades for their work improving the lives of individuals in the developing world. These talks were coupled with with inspirational presentations on leadership from motivational speakers from around the world. One day of the Symposium was dedicated to delegates reaching out to NGOs within the community around Phnom Penh, taking part in work including painting, construction, community clean-ups and cross-cultural sharing with the children and young people at these organisations.
