The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is preparing a new Commissioner’s Interpretation Statement on Public Benevolent Institutions (PBIs) and the ATO intends to withdraw its outdated tax ruling. What are the differences? How have recent cases changed the view of what is a PBI? Has the definition contracted or expanded?
Professional advisers, sector leaders and academics are invited to discuss with staff from the Exposure Draft Commissioner’s Interpretation Statement on PBIs.
Chaired by Prof Myles McGregor-Lowndes, ACNC Advisory Board Member and Foundation Director of the Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies at QUT, the panel will include:
• Murray Baird, Assistant Commissioner, General Counsel ACNC
• Andrew Lind, Director of Corney and Lind Lawyers, Qld Law Society Deputy Chair,
Not-for-profits Law Committee member
• Suhanya Mendes, Legal Counsel ACNC
Early registrations are encouraged to avoid disappointment.
