ACPNS alumnus, Steve Wakerley decided to follow his dreams and, after studying at the Centre, is now CEO of Variety, one of Australia’s largest children’s charities!
After 27 years as a police officer, Steve Wakerley made the brave decision to leave his job behind and follow his dreams. Facing chronic heart failure, Steve realised that it is never too late to change careers – as long as you have the right knowledge. He decided to pursue his passion for the not-for-profit sector and helping others. With a fresh Graduate Certificate in Business (Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies) from QUT’s Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (ACPNS), it wasn’t long before he became the CEO of Variety.
