The latest edition of the Australian Sector Nonprofit Legal and Accounting Almanac is now available. The annual publication contains a summary of significant cases, legislation, and tax issues impacting on the nonprofit sector as well as topical updates written by practitioners.
It also includes updates of legislative changes in all Australian jurisdictions. Significant Australian cases included several disputes with State Revenue Authorities about exemption from payroll taxes.
Contenders for the ‘most interesting’ case of 2015 includes disputes about whether the NZ Jedi Society qualified as a religious charity (case 2.1.5); whether a UK gun club was charitable (case 2.1.1); and the prosecution of a Singaporean mega-church pastor following misdirection of at least $24million to support the pop singing career of his wife. And this is just the tip of the iceberg!
