Course: Bachelor of Fine Arts (Creative and Professional Writing)
Year of progress in course: second
Star sign: Aquarius/Pisces.
Dream job: Just writing, I guess. Somewhere quiet and with nice scenery and neighbours who aren’t elderly and don’t have children.
What’s the one thing that sets you apart from other students: Nothing really. I assume I spend about as much time binge eating, drinking and procrastinating on Facebook as everybody else.
Which TV character best matches your personality: Maybe a less hilarious version of Liz Lemon (because, let’s be honest, nobody can actually be as funny as Tina Fey.)
Your favourite three books: So difficult. Maybe Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. And The Shipping News, by Annie Proulx, mainly because it’s totally and completely perfect.
Your favourite three movies: My Own Private Idaho, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Describe your music tastes: The Doors, The Rolling Stones, John Mellencamp, Queen, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, who I have been a little bit in love with since I was fifteen. And also the Strokes, Eels, the Avalanches, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Air.
What do you do in your free time: Watch 30 Rock, read, write, avoid washing up or doing the laundry, tease my law student roommate who spends twice as much time as I do studying, laze around.
You can invite five people (dead, alive or fictional) to dinner – who would they be: Jim Morrison, Wilfred Owen, Jack Donaghy, River Phoenix and Hunter S. Thompson. It’d be ridiculously awkward.
What makes you happy: Assignment-free weekends, student night at UJ’s, really good second-hand bookshops, red lipstick, op-shopping, the fact that Matt Preston from MasterChef looks like a giant toad, Coconut Rough chocolate, good sushi and the geckoes in my house who keep it free of spiders and roaches.
If you could choose one super power – what would it be: I’m not much for superheroes. But imagine having a block of chocolate or a bottle of wine that refills magically as soon as it’s finished. So super.
What is your favourite place on earth: Bed.
What would be your last meal: The Toblerone cheesecake my mum made for my fourteenth birthday. Or just any kind of cheesecake would be fine.
What do you want to be when you grow up: It’s probably a bad sign that I don’t know the answer to that question at this point in my life.
What is your most treasured possession: It was my laptop, until it broke last week. And I survived that, and have moved on to other computers. So nothing, I suppose. Everything’s replaceable.
Blogs you follow: Stuff White People Like, PostSecret, Overheard In New York, MLIA. They’re not all blogs, but they occupy probably 90% of my time on the net.
