Things to do in Brisbane

Free places to visit in Brisbane

We all love freebies, don’t we? From finding something to do during your holidays, or even seeking something to help you relax from your heavy university workload. Well here are some places you could visit in or near Brisbane with no costs incurred.

Daisy Hill Koala Centre

This is an absolute haven for all koala lovers! With no entrance fee required unlike the famous Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, you will get to view several cuddly koalas and read more about them in the visitor centre. Afterwards, you can choose to take a stroll around a nearby forest, where you will find yourself lost in an oasis of serenity.

Mount Coot- tha Botanical Gardens

Many of you may have known of the picturesque Mount Coot- tha lookout, however, there is an even better and less crowded place to visit which is a mere 3 minutes’ drive from the lookout. The botanical gardens offer a wide variety of flora, an Instagram worthy tropical display dome, a beautiful Japanese garden (and many other attractions), and it is definitely a place not to be missed.

Shorncliffe pier

This is a place for those who wish to take in the sea breeze and enjoy an oceanic view from the pier. It is a lovely place for you to hang around and chill with your friends, and you can even cast a line during sunrise or sunset. Absolutely a stunning place to go!

Queensland Gallery of Modern Art

If you’re looking for somewhere to visit in the city centre, this one’s probably for you. The Queensland art gallery have many fascinating art pieces and even a room showcasing intricate patterned Chinese porcelain vases. This artsy open space is ideal for those who want to find a place to relax and soak in the atmosphere.

Brisbane Powerhouse

Last but not least, if you are in for a good laugh, be sure to head down to Brisbane Powerhouse on a Friday Night to catch “Knockoff”, a comedy show. I absolutely enjoyed the shows as the stories told were so engaging and hilarious. You don’t want to miss this.

Known to her peers and family as a happy go lucky girl, Nicola loves to spread positive vibes and explore new places of interests during her free time. Coming from Singapore, a tropical island city, Nicola loves to hang out at the beach to take a dip or hit the books. She has a strong passion for dance and hopes to inspire others through this art form. She also hopes to share with fellow students a more comprehensive knowledge on the beauty of the Queensland state, as well as school life here amidst the hustle and bustle of the Brisbane city.
