AMS Mary Kay Doctoral Dissertation Competition

The AMS Mary Kay Inc. Dissertation Award is for junior researchers in the field of marketing who have recently graduated their doctoral degree. The competition winner will receive $600 and a one-year membership in the Academy of Marketing Science at Louisiana Tech University.

Sponsored by Mary Kay Inc. and the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS), doctoral candidates in marketing who have completed their thesis during January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2018 are eligible for the AMS Mary Kay Doctoral Dissertation Award. To be considered, you will need to submit an electronic version of a thesis abstract that is no longer than 15 double-spaced pages (including appendices, tables, figures, and references).

Submissions covering any marketing-related topic, methodology and research interest are welcome. Submissions close January 5 2019.

Scholarship for Health ECRs

The Deeble Institute for Health Policy Research Scholarship Program is a six week program based in Canberra at the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, that gives recipients the opportunity to:

  • build  expertise in an area relevant to health services research
  • contribute to the AHHA and its work
  • interact with policy makers and practitioners
  • produce a health policy issues brief that engages health policy leaders in an area of national significance
  • be guided by a mentor who will provide advice during the scholarship

Early career researchers (< 5 years post-PhD) are welcome to apply.

For the first time, the World Hospital Congress, being held this year in Brisbane, will feature a one-day Design Jam.

Design jam brings a diversity of people together (students, researchers and problem solvers from across and beyond health) to co-design and pitch solutions to improve health and care.

The pitching competition starts November 27 with a Pitch@Palace On Tour event (e.g. at the Gold Coast, Queensland). Forty-two progress from tour events to Pitch@Palace Australia Bootcamp, being held in Brisbane, on November 28.  The Pitch@Palace Australia 2.0 event will be held 30 November 2018. If you win, you may progress to represent Australia, pitch in a palace, and gain international exposure and contacts.

Practice your pitch

Being able to pitch an idea is a valuable skill – whether in entrepreneurship or in your every day personal life. There are a number of upcoming opportunities for you to develop and pitch ideas and significant prizes, support, and/or promotion available.

  • practice pitching your idea for a product, startup business or social enterprise (whatever stage it’s at – from ‘just an idea’, to prototype, minimum viable product, or new venture)

QUT Hosts First Intergenerational Challenge, Harnessing Diversity for Problem-Solving

This week QUT hosted InCahoots: Australia’s first intergenerational innovation challenge, harnessing cross-generational thinking to solve significant real world challenges.

The pilot event, co-created by QUT foundry & QUT IFE, catalysed cross-generational (and cross-sector) collaboration.

Participants let their passion for solving a particular problem, rather than their age or qualifications, guide their teaming.

After several hours, all nine teams showed their capacity to be creative and develop and pitch business opportunities for profit and positive impact.
