Gardens Point Library 24/7 opening

Have you heard? During exam period Gardens Point Library will be open 24 hours a day!

GP Campus just got a whole lot better with the introduction of 24 hour access to the library. This means staff and students will have 24 hour access to all library study spaces including study rooms, library collections (including the Course Reserve collection), and the 24 hour computer lab located on Level 2.

How will it work?

Well, starting from 1st June at 7am and ending 23rd June at 10pm, staff and students will have 24 hour access to Gardens Point Library. Entry and exit to the library will be restricted to the main entrance door (opposite BarMerlo) and will be swipe card access only so make sure you have your QUT ID Card at all times.

QUT Security will monitor the library during these times however for your safety in the early hours of the morning students are encouraged to carry a mobile phone and download the SafeZone app.

The Library Helpdesk services are available from 7am to 10pm weekdays and 9am to 5pm on weekends and public holidays, all other times will be self-service only.

For more information look at our 24/7 webpage.

What’s a sanction and how do I deal with it?

You thought everything for the semester was done and dusted – but wait, what is that you see in your email inbox? A sanction! In all the rush to meet deadlines you may have forgotten to return some items to the library. We’d like to make sure everything is available and ready for interested users.

So, what is a sanction?

  • When a library item becomes 28 days overdue, an academic sanction will be applied to your student record.
  • Sanctions prevent you from receiving examination results, graduating and obtaining academic transcripts.

What should I do?

  • To remove the sanction, you need to either return the item or pay a replacement cost.
  • Replacement costs can be paid online by credit card via QUTPay, or in person at any QUT Branch Library, excluding the Law Library.

QUT Library is committed to ensuring equitable access to resources and we ask that you return or renew your items by their due date. You can renew them yourself by logging on to your My Library Profile on the QUT Library website.

Full details about overdues, penalties and sanctions are available via the QUT Library website.

Level 6 of Gardens Point Library is getting a makeover

There are some changes happening on level 6 of Gardens Point Library.

Individual study spaces will replace group study spaces, and there will be more power outlets for your laptops and other mobile devices making it easier for you to study solo.

Work will begin on the new space soon. From the 14th of July you will no longer be able to book the group study rooms on level 6. If you’re after a book, the collection on this level will still be accessible while work is happening.

Building work in the Kelvin Grove Library Curriculum Collection

While you are smashing your exams and then taking a well-deserved break after an awesome first semester, we are working hard to improve the Library building and facilities. This coming week some of that work will be happening in the Curriculum Collection area on level 4 at Kelvin Grove.

This means that the Curriculum Collection at KG Library will be closed to students until Wednesday 11 June. Don’t worry though – if you need something from the collection during this time, just ask at the Library Helpdesk on level 2 and staff will retrieve the item for you.

(Unfortunately, moving our books won’t be as magical as in this video.)

Changes to level 1 at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove Libraries

As we blogged earlier this week, work is commencing to consolidate the QUT Library print journal collection and that means some changes for level 1 at Gardens Point Library. Well, we didn’t want to leave Kelvin Grove out of the fun! There will be some similar changes happening there as well.

Gardens Point

Level 1 at Gardens Point is now permanently inaccessible to staff and students. To access print journals from 2012 and prior, you need to complete a copy request form and articles will be delivered to you via email. You can still browse and read current and 2013 journals on Level 4.

Kelvin Grove

From Monday, 2 June, work begins on level 1 at Kelvin Grove and past issues of print journals (2012 and prior) won’t be directly accessible. Again, you will need to complete a copy request form and the article will then be delivered to you via email. Level 6 still has current and 2013/2012 journals for you to access yourself.

Clayton Utz Law Library

No changes. Come and browse our extensive legal periodical collection during regular opening hours.

Work begins on consolidating past issues of QUT Library’s print journal collection from Tuesday 27 May 2014. The changes will mean Level 1 Gardens Point Library will be permanently inaccessible to staff and students.

To access past journal articles, complete a copy request form and articles will be delivered to you via email. If you’d like to browse and read current journals, come in to one of the branch libraries and grab a comfy chair.

  • Gardens Point has journals from the current and previous year.
  • Kelvin Grove has journals from the current and previous two years.
