Love Data Week 2024 – My kind of data

Beginning the week of 12 February, QUT will be celebrating Love Data Week 2024. Adapting this year’s theme of ‘My kind of data’, celebrate as we focus on QUT’s kind of data – research data that is diverse, unique and contextualised to each research project. Help us celebrate and learn about data equity and inclusion, disciplinary communities, and creating a kinder world through data.

QUT Library is facilitating a number of research data management training sessions in celebration of Love Data Week 2024. We hope you can attend one or more of the sessions below, or simply engage with various international activities online or follow along on social media using #LoveData24.

Research Data Management: Planning  

Tuesday, 13 February. 2:00 pm – 2:45pm. Register here

An interactive session for research students and staff to introduce Research Data Management and to help you plan for managing research files, information, and data.

Wednesday 14 February. 11:00 am – 11:45am. Register here

An interactive session for research students and staff to help you understand the importance of storage as part of effective research data management practice and to identify and select the most suitable digital research data storage option for your research project.

What you’ll learn:

  • Recommended storage options for research data at QUT
  • How to request access to QUT’s Research Data Storage Service
  • Managing research data with different purposes and at different stages
  • Using file naming conventions and folder directory structures

Research Data Management: Preservation & Publication

Wednesday 21 February. 10:00 am – 10:45am. Register here

An interactive session for research students and staff to help you increase the impact of your research by publishing and sharing your research data in repositories and preserving your research data files using QUT-supported archival data storage.

What you’ll learn:

  • Publishing, licensing, copyright and DOIs for research datasets
  • QUT Research Data Finder
  • How to create a research data record in Research Data Finder
  • Understanding preservation responsibilities, storage options, and formats.

Secondary datasets for Research: Education data

This session introduces you to secondary datasets, their benefits, and how to find and use them. It will include an introduction to secondary datasets and data citation and will then focus on examples of datasets most relevant to researchers in the Education discipline.

Catch up with QUT’s Research Data Librarian to ask questions on any aspect of managing your research data. This is the first session for the year; they will occur monthly throughout the year – drop in and get help on planning, sharing, storing, organising or publishing for your project’s research data.
