We celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime in the Library yesterday!
It is one of our favourite times of the year and this year was exceptional. QUT Education student volunteers exceeded all expectations reading the book and running engaging activities making the morning a huge success. The children visiting from our local kindergartens thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did all the adults!
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information
Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, family day cares, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 23rd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy (ALIA, 2023).
If you want to read what Spike the Speedy Sloth gets up to you can borrow the book from our collection and for further information about NSS please visit the ALIA website.
We also have previous years NSS books including our very own super cute sloth puppet available to borrow in the Kelvin Grove Library Curriculum collection.
Happy reading everyone!
