Our Library 101 workshop is designed to help you discover what’s available at QUT Library and get comfortable using the library website to find information or the help you need.
Learn how to refine your research skills to make the most of your study time in our SearchSmart: Finding information for assignments workshop. In this workshop you will learn how to unpack your assignment task and create search strategies that find the information you need, fast. You will learn the difference between different types of information sources, where to find them and how to refine your search results to only the ones you need.
Join the SearchSmart: Evaluate your sources session to learn the difference between primary and secondary sources, and how to decide which types of sources are best for your assignments. This workshop also teaches you how to discern the difference between high quality information suitable for your assignments, and low-quality sources that aren’t suitable for university-level study.
Need help with referencing? Referencing is an important skill to learn as part of your degree and can count for 10% of your marks. Our CiteWrite Referencing Essentials workshop introduces the principles and styles of referencing and citing using QUT cite|write. We teach you how to paraphrase the work of others, avoid plagiarism, and make sure that your work has academic integrity.
For Law students, discover the resources and services you can access at our Law Library 101 workshop. This workshop teaches how to find specific guides for the legal referencing and research, and how to find your law readings, textbooks and where to get specialised help with law assignments.
You can attend an on-campus workshop, or if you prefer to learn from home, we offer online workshops as well. We also offer in-person and virtual library tours to help you familiarise yourself with our facilities.
