Thursday, 9 September is R U OK? Day.
R U OK?, a charity organisation founded in Australia in 2009, encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. 2021 has been another tough year for us all, so it’s more important than ever that we connect with and support each other–particularly those who are struggling.
If you know someone–a fellow student, family member, friend, or workmate–whom you think might benefit from a sympathetic ear, R U OK? advocates a four-step process:
- Encourage action
- Check in
See the R U OK? website for details, and helpful tips for starting a conversation.
This year, QUT continues its partnership with Australia’s R U OK? Foundation, and will be hosting a series of on-campus and online events and activities to promote mental and physical wellbeing. You can find details and a full programme of events here.
And it’s important to remember that, whatever difficulties or challenges you might be facing, you can seek support at any time of year through QUT’s health and wellbeing resources for students and staff.
Also keep in mind that QUT Library has a great many books, articles, videos, and web resources addressing mental health and wellbeing.
