Professor Nicolas Suzor appointed to Artificial Intelligence Expert Group

Professor Nicolas Suzor, Australian Research Council Future Fellow in the QUT School of Law, has been appointed to a new Artificial Intelligence Expert Group. The establishment of the group was announced by the Federal Minister for Industry and Science (The Hon Ed Husic MP), following the Government’s interim response to the Safe and Responsible AI in Australia consultation.

The initial twelve-member group will provide advice to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources on immediate work on transparency, testing and accountability, including options for AI guardrails in high-risk settings, to help ensure AI systems are safe.

“This Artificial Intelligence Expert Group brings the right mix of skills to steer the formation of mandatory guardrails for high-risk AI settings,” the Hon Ed Husic MP said.

“With expertise in law, ethics and technology, I’m confident this group will get the balance right.”

The QUT School of Law congratulates Professor Nicolas Suzor on this significant appointment.
