About the book
Health Law in Australia is the country’s leading health law text and includes contributions from 28 health law experts from 13 universities. Eleven of the contributing authors are ACHLR members or have ACHLR as their primary academic affiliation. An additional four contributing authors are ACHLR Adjuncts. All four editors of this edition (Prof. Ben White, Assoc. Prof. Fiona McDonald, Prof. Shih-Ning Then and Prof. Lindy Willmott) are ACHLR members.
Health Law in Australia was the first book to deal with health law on a comprehensive national basis. The book takes a logical, structured approach to explain the breadth of this area of law across all Australian jurisdictions.
By covering all the major areas in this diverse field, Health Law in Australia enhances the understanding of the discipline as a whole. The book begins by situating health law in its wider context with chapters on medical ethics, human rights and how the health system as a whole is regulated. It then explores the general principles of health law, including chapters on “Negligence”, “Children and Consent to Medical Treatment”, and “Privacy and Confidentiality in Healthcare”. The book considers beginning-of-life and end-of-life issues, as well as other areas in health law, such as health and medical research, public health law and regulation of genetic testing.
