BlueShift Business Competition finals

On the 27th of May QUT hosted its first international team in its successful annual BlueShift Business Competition for High Schools. The team from Mahamaya Girls School in Kandy, Sri Lanka joined teams from 11 Australian High Schools in the finals. The team were invited to join the competition after competing in the Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka annual Business Plan Competition which was this year sponsored by QUT.

The BlueShift competition involved developing an international expansion plan for a local Australian Burger Company – Burger urge – with the teams having to determine the optimal international market to expand into and then designing a new signature burger to use as a flag ship for that market.

The team from Mahamaya entered a extremely high quality submission and backed it up with a confident presentation. Unfortunately they were beaten by only 1 mark in the semi-final by the eventual winners – the North Bundaberg State High School, however all of the judges indicated it was a very close run decision.

This is the first time QUT has invited an international team however we intend to expand our sponsorship of international competitions so that more teams from around the globe will be able to compete in future editions.
