QUT electrochemistry reseacher wins national chemistry award

QUT’s researcher Dr Anthony O’Mullane has been presented with a 2014 Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) Award for his contribution to chemistry and the chemistry profession. Dr O’Mullane specialises in electrocatalysis, water purification, Li batteries and the applicaton of electrochemistry for energy generation. The RACI recognised Dr O’Mullanes ability to combine innovative synthetic methods and give new insights into both old and new electroactive materials.

One of his successful projects involves transforming gold into highly active nano-sized shapes that can be used to fuel cells which will power vehicles and other applications.

“It is a great honour to receive such recognition from my professional peers. Chemistry has been my passion for almost 20 years now and QUT gives me the opportunity to continue to grow my knowledge,” Dr O’Mullane said.

Currently Dr O’Mullane works as a Senior lecturer at QUT’s Science and Engineering faculty and a ARC Future Fellow.
