Early this year, I was invited to attend a three-day workshop on planning and budgeting which was organized by the Office of the District Health Manager. The purpose of this workshop was for the five health facilities within the Kokopo District, East New Britain Province, PNG to come together to make their annual activities plan according to the budget shieling given. I was privileged to attend this workshop on behalf of my officer in charge. this workshop was important to me because it allowed me to implement the skills and knowledge gained from QUT on planning and budgeting; it provided networking opportunities with likeminded staff and partner on improving health service delivery; and it gave me more training on budget preparation and allocation for each activity and how to raise and submit claims for any programs. Combining this with my previous QUT training, we managed to achieve the following outcomes for our facility:
- A copy of the budget given to the facility
- Immunization mobile outreach program has commenced
- TB follow up has commenced
- World TB day was commemorated with staff upskilling
- Logistics support was enhanced.
