It was truly one of the best experiences of my life to date, and I highly recommend this u<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW168107411 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-AU\" xml:lang=\"EN-AU\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW168107411 BCX0\">niversity<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW168107411 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-AU\" xml:lang=\"EN-AU\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW168107411 BCX0\">\u00a0to anyone who loves to travel, and is looking for new experiences<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW168107411 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-AU\" xml:lang=\"EN-AU\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW168107411 BCX0\">!<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW168107411 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Calgary<\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Calgary is a truly beautiful city, and is in a perfect location (in my opinion) within Canada. Situated near the Rocky Mountains, it is the perfect place to stay if you want to travel during the semester. As it is only an hour away from Banff and Lake Louise, I visited these tourist hotspots many times during my stay in Calgary, as well as venturing out further into the Rockies and into the British Columbia countryside. However, prepare for freezing temperatures in Calgary, as it was often below -10 during the time I was there, and rarely did the temperature rise into the positives. While this is a downfall, you adapt to it <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pretty quickly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and become very much used to the weather! By staying on campus, I was able to make friends much easier, and had much more access to on-campus resources. I chose to live in <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Yamnuska<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Hall, which is typically the 2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nd<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> year student building, however it has quite a few international exchange students as well. I was incredibly lucky, and was placed with <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">an incredible roommate, who very quickly became one of my closest friends, and introduced me to so many other students at the University<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. While living on-campus, I also chose to purchase a meal plan to limit my costs and food waste during my stay. The food served in the Dining Centre was surprisingly always\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">really good<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and they generously catered for all diets and food preferences.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">University of C<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">algary academics<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The University of Calgary<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is a terrific university. I truly learnt so much during my <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">studies, and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0interacted with many different professors and students. It runs\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pretty differently<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to QUT, with a much higher lecture attendance rate and many more opportunities to meet with your professors to discuss the course content. Lectures are not recorded, and sometimes the lecture slides are not uploaded online, and attendance often counts towards your final grade, so you really\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">have to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0attend and take notes to succeed in the units.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Student Life<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The best thing I found while at the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">University of Calgary<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was their school spirit<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. I attended so many hockey and basketball games,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">most<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of which had packed audiences and a great culture. These were a big highlight of my time there. I highly recommend going to the Crowchild Classic hockey game if\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">you\u2019re<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0there in the winter semester, as this was an incredible show of school spirit, and was just a really fun experience<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0all round<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The International Student Society (ISS) also offered many events for exchange students to participate in, including ski trips, a Banff trip, and many more. These are\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">really great<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to participate in, particularly the Banff one, as they&#8217;re generally cheaper than travelling around by yourself. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9181\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9181\" style=\"width: 439px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/gone-global\/files\/2020\/10\/AS5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9181\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/gone-global\/files\/2020\/10\/AS5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"439\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/gone-global\/files\/2020\/10\/AS5.png 640w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/gone-global\/files\/2020\/10\/AS5-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 439px) 100vw, 439px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9181\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Crowchild Classic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Highlights<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">My favourite part of the exchange experience, was the people I met while over there. Canadians are lovely <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">people, and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> are easy to make friends with.
