While studying abroad is beneficial, cultural and exciting,\u00a0there were several things I had to consider before making a definitive decision.<\/div>\n

  1. Firstly,\u00a0studying abroad\u00a0might cause me to be out of\u00a0my comfort zone<\/strong>.\u00a0I know, right. You, out of your comfort zone in an overseas paradise? But\u00a0think about it. Everyone has an established comfort zone. Everyone has\u00a0their established friends, activities, hangouts and jobs.\u00a0And I, like everyone else,\u00a0am comfortable\u00a0with\u00a0the familiarity each of these\u00a0offer.\u00a0Breaking out of these familiarities in such a sudden and extreme way might prove to be both scary and uncomfortable. I\u00a0had to consider if studying abroad is worth this risk and decide\u00a0whether I could or could not embrace new experiences, cultures and people.<\/li>\n
  2. On top of this, studying abroad\u00a0will\u00a0probably cause\u00a0me to feel some semblance of homesickness. <\/strong>It could be for\u00a0my friends\u00a0and\u00a0family, or for Australian comforts, like the sun. But let’s be real – it’s 2016.\u00a0Social networking sites\u00a0such as Skype and\u00a0Facebook make keeping in touch incredibly easy, so I decided the likelihood of this happening\u00a0would be\u00a0fairly\u00a0minimal.<\/li>\n
  3. But…\u00a0studying abroad\u00a0might cause\u00a0me to miss\u00a0important milestones and\/or emergencies back home.<\/strong> I\u00a0would love to be there for all the\u00a0important milestones and tragedies my family or friends may experience. I’m also the kind of person who prefers to offer support in person, and not through a computer screen or telephone. However, life at home will go on – with or without me.\u00a0It\u2019s something I had to come to terms with before\u00a0making my\u00a0final\u00a0decision.<\/li>\n
  4. And finally, study abroad\u00a0costs a\u00a0large amount of money<\/strong>.\u00a0Like, think-of-a-number-and-double-it large. It\u00a0was\u00a0(and still is)\u00a0my biggest concern about travelling overseas\u00a0– and it doesn’t help that\u00a0the United Kingdom has\u00a0a high cost of student living. Thankfully, though, all that pre-decision research paid off. I found out when to go, where to stay and\u00a0what to do to limit my costs overseas. And besides which, the money will be more than worth the one in a lifetime experience!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
