Hello! My name is Tori and I have recently come back from the best eight months of my life. And when I say the best eight months, I genuinely mean it!
\nI made the decision to go about a year before I left, and I\u2019m so glad I did\u2014mainly because the application process is long, but trust me, it\u2019s so worth it! I chose Leeds because I\u2019d heard it had an amazing uni culture, but also because my extended family wasn\u2019t too far away if I ever needed a little escape (spoiler: I never did need one, but it was nice knowing they were there).<\/p>\n

\"\"I studied my electives at The University of Leeds in the education field. I loved doing my electives overseas because it gave me the chance to explore subjects I wouldn\u2019t normally study here\u2014without stressing too much about grades, since it was pass\/fail.
\nAnd the people\u2014wow. I met some of the greatest friends, many of whom are coming to visit Australia in December! At Charles Morris (on-campus accommodation), I ended up flatting with other exchange students, including quite a few from Brisbane. Since coming home, we\u2019ve been catching up over coffees at Gramps and reminiscing about our great times in Leeds.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

So! About preparing:<\/h4>\n

\u2022 Have warm clothes ready for when you land if you\u2019re going for Semester 1 in Europe. I\u2019m talking gloves on you or at the top of your suitcase\u2014trust me.
\n\u2022 Skip the eSIM drama. I bought mine at the airport when I landed\u2014unlimited for the UK and Europe for around $50\/month. Worth it. Everyone wanted my hotspot.
\n\u2022 Thermals are life. And about three pairs of different-coloured jeans will get you through.
\n\u2022 Bring two suitcases: one to travel with initially, and another with summer clothes that can be shipped or brought over by family. That second one should also double as your Europe backpack if you\u2019re travelling after Semester 1.
\n\u2022 Get your ETA sorted.
\n\u2022 Centrelink if you\u2019re 22! Apply while still in Australia and make sure you get the living away from home rate.<\/p>\n

\"\"First impressions:<\/h4>\n

A new place will always feel a little overwhelming at first. For me, the early sunsets and late sunrises were the biggest adjustment. But once I embraced it, I realised\u2014every day is only going to get lighter from here! By the end, the parks were full whenever the sun was shining, and it was so lovely.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

What surprised me:<\/h4>\n

The tutors really get to know you. They remember your name and little details about you, which I haven\u2019t experienced as much here at QUT (though maybe I don\u2019t make as much effort here!). Also, many units are 100% assignments\u2014meaning you can chip away at them instead of panicking over sudden deadlines.<\/p>\n

Get around it:<\/h4>\n

\u2022 The UK\u2019s pub culture is huge and honestly makes for such a great atmosphere. Visit different pubs and use it as a way to get to know people.
\n\u2022 Leeds societies are massive! I joined lacrosse with my mates for the social side\u2014we signed up for the beginners\/social group and it was such a fun way to meet UK students.
\nHonestly, when I say I had the bestest time, I truly did. I met amazing people, travelled to incredible places, and learned things I never would have otherwise.<\/p>\n
