Spending a semester as an exchange student at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Looking back, it feels like a blur of train rides, new faces, late-night conversations, spontaneous trips, and constant discovery. What started as a leap into the unknown ended up becoming a chapter of personal growth, global connection, and unforgettable adventure.<\/p>\n
Before arriving in Amsterdam, I had never lived in a city quite like it. From the moment I stepped off the plane and saw the organized chaos of bikes, trams, and narrow canal houses, I knew I was somewhere special. Amsterdam has a unique charm and the city’s vibrant international vibe made me feel welcome right away.<\/p>\n
At AUAS, I found a very supportive and multicultural academic environment. The classes were hands-on, group-focused, and often tied to real-world problems. I enjoyed how the teaching style encouraged discussion, creativity, and independent thinking. But if I\u2019m being honest, what made my experience truly unforgettable wasn\u2019t just what I learned in the classroom, it was everything that happened outside of it.<\/p>\n
Travel was a huge part of my exchange. Thanks to Amsterdam\u2019s central location and the magic of cheap flights and train passes, I explored so many parts of Europe. In just a few months, I visited cities like Vienna, , Prague, Copenhagen, and Lisbon. Each trip was its own little adventure, sometimes chaotic, sometimes eye-opening, and always filled with laughter. I learned how to pack light, sleep on buses, read maps, and appreciate the diversity of cultures and cuisines Europe has to offer.<\/p>\n
The people I met during my exchange are the heart of my experience. AUAS had a thriving exchange community, and I was lucky to be surrounded by fellow students from all over the world; Argentina, Jordan, Canada, Italy, Brazil, and so many more. We shared our cultures, our struggles with Dutch bureaucracy, our excitement about discovering local hidden spots, and even our homesickness. There was something incredibly comforting about knowing that we were all in this together.<\/p>\n
Of course, living in Amsterdam came with its own set of challenges. Biking in rush hour traffic, dealing with high grocery prices, and adjusting to constant rain tested my patience. But even the difficult moments taught me resilience and flexibility. I learned to laugh when things didn\u2019t go as planned and to trust that every experience both good or bad was part of the journey.<\/p>\n
As my exchange semester came to an end, I found myself dreading the goodbyes. Leaving Amsterdam and the friends I had grown so close to felt like leaving a part of myself behind. But I carry all those memories with me, and I know that the connections I made will last far beyond the semester.<\/p>\n
My time at AUAS taught me more than any textbook ever could. It opened my eyes to the world, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and gave me stories I\u2019ll tell for the rest of my life. If you\u2019re considering studying abroad, DO IT.<\/p>\n
