Semester 2, 2024<\/h4>\n

Bachelor of Public Health<\/h4>\n

Studying abroad is one of those opportunities that can shape you in ways you never expect. The flexibility of QUT\u2019S exchange programs, particularly in the health faculty offers endless growth\u2014both personal and academic. University is the time when curiosity blossoms, and connections are formed that often last a lifetime. An exchange semester not only lets you experience a new culture, but it also exposes you to new ideas, people, and challenges.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"<\/p>\n

For me, the decision to study abroad was made early in high school as soon as I discovered it was an opportunity. In the beginning, I was so excited to explore the seemingly endless list of host universities. The opportunity to live in a completely new place while continuing my studies was irresistible. The prospect of being immersed in a different environment, both academically and culturally, felt like the perfect recipe for growth. And honestly, I was right.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"<\/p>\n

I spent three months studying at the University of Birmingham in the UK during the fall semester, and it was an unforgettable experience. The UK was an amazing choice because it was familiar enough\u2014English was the primary language, and the university system was similar to what I was used to in Australia. But there were differences too, nothing was familiar, my room, the people I live with, the walk to class, the weather, the accent, and most importantly the context of my studies. I had the opportunity to apply the same concepts, principles and behaviour patterns within a slightly different health system.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just academics that made my time abroad so valuable. The UK\u2019s central location made it easy to travel around Europe, and I took full advantage of that. A short 30-minute train ride from Birmingham took me straight to the airport, connecting me to destinations across Europe. For two months before and after my semester, I backpacked through Europe making the most amazing memories as I went. I visited 15 countries and had the most thought-provoking conversations, saw unbelievable parts of the world and most importantly spent some priceless time by myself. I was genuinely constantly pinching myself.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

The journey wasn\u2019t without its challenges, though. The initial culture shock and homesickness hit hard. It was tough being away from home in a foreign place. But the joy of new experiences and the overwhelming fulfillment I felt from those moments made every hard part worth it. By the end of the semester, I had not only developed a deeper passion for my degree, but I also gained new perspectives, made lifelong friends from all over the globe, and had memories that I\u2019ll cherish forever.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

Studying abroad gave me a fresh outlook on life, and it opened my eyes to how interconnected the world is. It left me feeling inspired and excited for the future. Exchange truly made the world feel accessible and gave me a sense of confidence and possibility I never had before.<\/p>\n
