QUT Centre for Justice member, Dr Bridget Weir, has presented as part of the QUT Women in Research Showcase<\/strong> which highlights the work of mid-career researchers making an impact in their area of research.<\/p>\n

Bridget presented on her research in the prevention of intrafamiliar abuse and child sexual abuse.<\/p>\n

Dr Bridget Weir\u2019s research to prevent child sexual abuse, examines intrafamilial abuse<\/em>
\n\u2013 what parents know, how they perceive perpetrators and perpetration, and why they<\/em>
\nmay struggle to recognise threats within their own families or close social networks.<\/em>
\nBridget examines the complex dynamics of intrafamilial abuse, and how it is socially<\/em>
\nconceptualised, to deconstruct widespread myths, such as the stranger danger narrative,<\/em>
\nthat obscure effective prevention. Her work on sexual offender reintegration is<\/em>
\ninforming the National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse.<\/em><\/p>\n
