QUT Centre for Justice and QUT Design Lab look forward to featuring two sessions focused on Young People as part of the upcoming symposium Design for a Just World.<\/strong><\/p>\n On Day 1 of the symposium QUT Design Lab and QUT Centre for Justice will run two parallel sessions:<\/p>\n QUT DESIGN LAB:<\/strong><\/p>\n Brigid Canny from YLab<\/strong> will discuss “Beyond Youth Advisory Groups:\u00a0 Meaningfully Engaging Young People in Service Design.”<\/strong><\/p>\n YLab is a social enterprise dedicated to building better systems and services with young people. Join YLab’s CEO QUT CENTRE FOR JUSTICE:<\/strong><\/p>\n QUT Centre for Justice will feature a panel of three researchers who will showcase their work around Young People and Justice.\u00a0 It will cover themes such as First Nations students, youth hate crime, trauma and education.<\/p>\n Dr Grace O\u2019Brien, School of Education, CIESJ<\/strong> Associate Professor Angela Higginson, School of Justice, CIESJ<\/strong> Dr Lyra L\u2019Estrange, School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education, CIESJ<\/strong><\/p>\n Lyra’s research and teaching in trauma aware education contributes to redefining support systems for children and adolescents We look forward to welcoming each of these\u00a0 speakers to the symposium.\u00a0 which seeks to explore the intersection of Design and Social Justice with thought leaders and innovators in their field.<\/p>\n
\nBrigid Canny to hear about YLab’s progressive approach to youth engagement and employment, and experiences
\nembedding young people with lived expertise in health system and service design. Brigid will describe the key elements of
\nYLab’s model and approach over the past eight years where they’ve employed and trained over 200 young people to work
\nwith over 300 Australian organisations on service design initiatives.<\/p>\n
\nGrace will discuss her research around Young People, Education and Justice and in particular the surveillance of young First Nations people in schools and within community<\/p>\n
\nAngela’s research is around young marginalised and minoritised Australians including experiences of youth hate crime victimisation, perceptions of policing and design and implementation and analysis of the Australian Youth Safety Survey.<\/p>\n
\nliving with the outcomes of complex trauma. Lyra uses her research experience in public health to translate trauma-informed principles into the education space, supporting the understanding of how learning and development is affected by complex trauma. Lyra has worked with parents, educators, and community organisations since 2014 delivering trauma-informed education.<\/p>\n
