QUT Centre for Justice was pleased to welcome Bogata Kardos from Gothenburg University, Sweden.\u00a0 \u00a0Bogata\u00a0 is a PhD candidate at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning at Gothenburg University, Sweden. In her PhD project she is investigating sex education curricula and policies by analyzing discourses about pornography and violence against women. She has worked in different educational programs for 15 years, both in Sweden and in Hungary.<\/p>\n
During her time at QUT Bogata has worked with Professor Michael Flood.\u00a0 During her final week Bogata presented a seminar to QUT members titled, ” “Critical pedagogies and social justice”.<\/strong><\/p>\n Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no such thing as neutral education. Education either functions as an instrument to bring about conformity or freedom.\u201d*<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>In this seminar, we will discuss the main concepts of critical pedagogy and its relevance for today\u2019s education. Critical pedagogy calls for reflection and action on power relations and social injustices. What are the different critical pedagogies today? What does this mean for curricula and teaching practices? How can this inspire a dynamic relation between education science, sociology, criminology?<\/p>\n I will also briefly introduce how critical pedagogy is practiced in the Hungarian context.<\/p>\n
