Professor Rowena Maguire,\u00a0 Director, QUT Centre for Justice was invited to speak on a panel moderated by the UN Office for Disaster Reduction Chief, Asia Pacific, Marco Toscano-Rivalta discussing “Strengthening the Legal Foundations of Disaster Risk Reduction”.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0This panel formed part of the\u00a0Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR)<\/strong> held in the Philippines last week.<\/p>\n Rowena spoke about shared responsibility and “The Sendai Framework\u2019s guiding principle on shared responsibility across all stakeholders:\u00a0 the meaning and implications of shared responsibility for inclusive disaster risk reduction that leaves no one behind.”\u00a0 The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030<\/a> was the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda and provides Member States with concrete actions to protect development gains from the risk of disaster.<\/span><\/p>\n Rowena has previously written for The Conversation on the topic of Shared Responsibility in a piece titled, “Governments love to talk about ‘shared responsibility’ in a disaster – but does anyone know what it means?”<\/a><\/p>\n
