Doing Justice Differentl<\/strong>y is the annual signature event of\u00a0QUT Centre for Justice<\/strong>\u00a0where we share the voices of those working across a particular sector. Our audience are practitioners, policymakers, advocates, researchers and educators and our goal is to stimulate discussion and debate around a particular topic.<\/p>\n

Join our\u00a0Food Justice Forum<\/strong>\u00a0where we will hear from the leading thinkers and stakeholders about how to make our food more equitable, healthy and sustainable. This forum will engage in meaningful dialogue around diverse issues from access to healthy food to climate change and labour rights at the intersection of food security and social justice.<\/p>\n

Our panel includes:<\/p>\n

Ema Vueti,<\/strong>\u00a0President is the President of the Pacific Islands Council of Qld (PICQ) based in Brisbane. She has worked with Pacific and CALD communities in Australia and the region for over 20 years. Ema has a background in agricultural research, particularly the horticultural sector and has published work in her field of study. Her involvement with the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme and Australian horticultural sector is through Seasonal Workers Program now known as PALM scheme. She has and continues to advocate for PALM scheme and migrant CALD workers through PICQ as a voice for Pacific Islands Communities and members living in Qld.<\/p>\n

Dr Lilly Lim-Camacho<\/strong>\u00a0is Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO Agriculture and Food. Her work focuses on supporting society transition to a more sustainable future, working with industry and government to use integrated systems approaches to address our grand challenges. Her expertise is in value chain management and analysis, which she applies in a range of challenges including food security, sustainability, climate adaptation and social inclusion. Lilly utilises strong science communication and engagement techniques in her research, working with a wide range of stakeholders both in the public and private sectors. Lilly leads strategic partner engagement with Food System Horizons, a partnership between CSIRO and The University of Queensland to bring food system thinking to the fore.<\/p>\n

Dr Simone Nalatu<\/strong>\u00a0is the Director of Equity and Communities at Health and Wellbeing Queensland. Dr Nalatu has over 20 years\u2019 experience working in public health, health promotion and prevention of chronic disease. Her career has spanned across the academic, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled and government sectors. Dr Nalatu completed her PhD at Giffith University through the NHMRC funded Centre for Clinical Research Excellence based at Queensland Aboriginal Islander Health Council in 2011. Dr Nalatu\u2019s team lead the implementation of two of Health and Wellbeing Queensland\u2019s priorities including<\/p>\n

1) Gather + Grow to address food insecurity in remote First Nations
\ncommunities and<\/p>\n

2) Making Healthy Happy, Queensland\u2019s comprehensive and forward-thinking
\nresponse to the\u00a0National Obesity Strategy 2022\u20132032<\/a>\u00a0focusing on creating
\nsupportive, sustainable, and healthy environments, empowering individuals to
\nstay healthy, and enabling access to prevention, early intervention, and
\nsupportive healthcare.<\/p>\n

Jess Watkinson<\/strong>\u00a0is the Chief Executive Officer of Foodbank Queensland and brings over 20 years of experience in not-for-profit and government sectors, specialising in community, capacity, and strategic development across the Northern Territory and Queensland within national organisations. As the CEO of Foodbank Queensland, Jess brings expert strategy development, collaboration and impact measurement. A passionate advocate for community-led, place-based responses, Jess currently holds the position of President at Stepping Stone Clubhouse; a community organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with mental illness in rebuilding their lives.<\/p>\n

Dr Deb Duthie<\/strong>\u00a0is a Wakka Wakka Warumungu woman with family ties to Cherbourg Queensland and Tennant Creek Northern Territory. She is the Director of Indigenous Health (Faculty of Health) and an Associate Professor in the School of Public Health and Social Work (Faculty of Health) .<\/p>\n
