QUT Centre for Justice hosted a successful event as part of Scams Awareness Week 2024 titled, “Stop a Scam, Share a Story”.\u00a0 <\/strong>As we wrap up Scams Awareness Week<\/a> we would like to thank those who contributed to this conversation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"Chaired by Professor Cassandra Cross from the Centre for Justice (C4J), alongside fellow researchers, Associate Professor Phoebe Hart and Dr Laura Vitis and storytellers, Stephanie Wood and Tracy Hall, the panel provided a brutal insight into the world of deception which characterises romance\u00a0fraud and how it is depicted in the media and on screen.<\/p>\n

The experiences of Stephanie,<\/a> \u00a0the author of Fake:\u00a0 A Startling True Story of Love in a World of Liars, Cheats, Narcissists, Fantasists and Phonies\u00a0<\/strong>which was adapted as a TV series on Paramount Prime, starring Asher Keddie and David Wenham, and\u00a0Tracy<\/a>\u00a0who featured in the podcast,\u00a0Who the Hell is Hamish<\/strong>\u00a0and also authored the book\u00a0The Last Victim<\/strong>\u00a0about her experience highlight the sheer depth of elaborate deception that can be perpetrated in an intimate relationship. Critically, it highlights romance fraud isn’t relegated to an online environment.<\/p>\n
