{"id":6105,"date":"2024-05-01T14:36:53","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T04:36:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/?p=6105"},"modified":"2024-05-02T13:20:30","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T03:20:30","slug":"queensland-domestic-and-family-violence-prevention-month-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/2024\/05\/01\/queensland-domestic-and-family-violence-prevention-month-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUT Centre for Justice will this month commemorate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qld.gov.au\/community\/getting-support-health-social-issue\/support-victims-abuse\/domestic-family-violence\/my-situation-is\/how-do-i-help-my-community-understand-domestic-violence\/domestic-and-family-violence-prevention-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>QUT Centre for Justice has many researchers working in the area of Domestic and Family Violence, particularly in the areas of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>interpersonal violence and its prevention, focusing on engaging men in violence prevention, and on men, masculinities, and gender justice<\/li>\n<li>technology facilitated violence in both Australian and international settings<\/li>\n<li>Women, violence and homelessness<\/li>\n<li>Domestic violence in family court cases, including the perverse consequences of The Hague Convention<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The QUT Centre for Justice hosts the <strong>\u2018Stopping Gender Violence\u2019 Advisory Board<\/strong> which includes QUT academics, representatives from industry and community practitioners from across Australia. The Board meet quarterly to share information and collaborate on policy, practice and research with the ultimate goal of reducing gender and family violence nationally. The Board is chaired by <a href=\"https:\/\/research.qut.edu.au\/centre-for-justice\/our-people\/michael-flood\/\" data-loopstyle=\"link\">Professor Michael Flood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>During May QUT Centre for Justice will be hosting two <strong>events<\/strong>, which will include industry organisations working in this field:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>9 May 2024<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3>10.00am, Kelvin Grove Campus and via Zoom<\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Event:\u00a0 ANROWS Evidence Portal<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6106\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2024\/05\/ANROWS-Evidence-Portal-1024x280.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"676\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2024\/05\/ANROWS-Evidence-Portal-1024x280.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2024\/05\/ANROWS-Evidence-Portal-300x82.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2024\/05\/ANROWS-Evidence-Portal-768x210.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2024\/05\/ANROWS-Evidence-Portal.png 1284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ANROWS Evidence Portal, launched in September 2023, is a living online resource that allows users to quickly and easily find high-quality, curated information about what might work to address or end violence against women.\u00a0 The Portal is designed to promote a collective understanding of where the evidence exists and where there are gaps, what interventions might work, to inform evidence-based policymaking, and to support quality decision-making and implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s National Research Organisation for Women\u2019s Safety Limited (ANROWS) is a not-for-profit independent national research organisation. ANROWS was established as an initiative of\u00a0<em>Australia\u2019s National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010\u20132022<\/em>\u00a0and is continuing under the\u00a0<em>National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032<\/em>. ANROWS was established by the Commonwealth and all state and territory governments of Australia to produce, disseminate, and assist in applying evidence for policy and practice addressing violence against women and their children. Perpetrators leverage various technologies, from social media platforms to GPS tracking apps, to invade the privacy of their targets. The ease of communication afforded by technology can be weaponized, enabling harassment through incessant messaging, doxing, and the dissemination of sensitive information. The blurred boundaries between the virtual and physical realms exacerbate the impact, leaving victims feeling constantly under surveillance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Technology facilitated abuse is a fast-emerging issue and is used by perpetrators of domestic violence with ever growing frequency. Dr Flood\u2019s research at present is focused in particular on interpersonal violence and its prevention, particularly with reference to men and masculinities.
