{"id":5895,"date":"2023-11-23T11:34:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-23T01:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/?p=5895"},"modified":"2023-11-23T11:34:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-23T01:34:19","slug":"qut-centre-for-justice-briefing-paper-world-toilet-day-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/2023\/11\/23\/qut-centre-for-justice-briefing-paper-world-toilet-day-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"QUT Centre for Justice Briefing Paper &#8211; World Toilet Day 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-5544\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/04\/DGS.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"186\" height=\"125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/04\/DGS.png 645w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/04\/DGS-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/04\/DGS-270x180.png 270w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/04\/DGS-370x247.png 370w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/04\/DGS-110x73.png 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 186px) 100vw, 186px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>QUT Centre for Justice has released a Briefing Paper to commemorate <strong>World Toilet Day<\/strong> on 19 November 2023<\/p>\n<p>The Briefing Paper titled, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2023\/11\/Issue41_SanitationJustice_DGS-et-al.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Making leaky bodies at work and study:\u00a0 Improving the provision of sanitary infrastructure in male-designated toilets at higher education institutions&#8221;<\/a> &#8211; was authored by Deanna Grant-Smith (pictured), Anne Hewitt and Loki Maelorin.<\/p>\n<p>This briefing paper explores the regulatory and justice arguments in support of providing additional sanitary disposal infrastructure in male-designated toilet stalls on the basis that failing to do so is not only inequitable as it may limit these<br \/>\nindividuals from fully participating in life on campus but may also potentially constitute prohibited discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>The recommendations in this briefing paper are based on consultation with a range of stakeholders including The University of<br \/>\nAdelaide Pride Club, YouX Sports Clubs, South Australian Rainbow Advocacy Alliance, and The University of Adelaide Disability, Illness and Divergence Association.<\/p>\n<p><strong>World Toilet Day<\/strong> is an annual United Nations Observance promoted through a worldwide public campaign that encourages action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The World Toilet Day 2023 campaign uses the ancient tale of the hummingbird who does what she can to fight a great fire \u2013 carrying droplets of water in her beak.
