QUT Law and Creative Industries alumni and QUT Centre for Justice Adjunct Lecturer, Dr Fiona Crawford, has been involved in writing about <\/a>the recent Homelessness World Cup <\/a>which brings together more than 70 grassroot organisations that are using football to tackle homelessness and social isolation.<\/p>\n

Fiona has also recently published a booked titled, “The Matilda Effect”<\/strong> specifically about the Women\u2019s Football World Cup, focusing on the Australian team, the Matildas, and their football and human rights\/gender equality contributions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Fiona’s contributions in this area align with QUT Centre for Justice\u2019s focus on social justice issues.\u00a0<\/span>The book title refers to both the effect the Matildas have had on the sporting and gender equality landscape\u00a0and a scientific phenomenon called the Matilda Effect, which relates to women scientists\u2019 contributions being overlooked, devalued, or misattributed to the nearest male.\u00a0This book discusses the idea is that these themes from science are recognisable in women\u2019s sport, and the Matildas are offsetting those\u00a0 themes and giving them new meaning.<\/span><\/p>\n
