{"id":5694,"date":"2023-06-29T12:54:47","date_gmt":"2023-06-29T02:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/?p=5694"},"modified":"2023-06-29T13:54:58","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T03:54:58","slug":"talking-to-boys-and-young-men-about-andrew-tate-and-the-manosphere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/2023\/06\/29\/talking-to-boys-and-young-men-about-andrew-tate-and-the-manosphere\/","title":{"rendered":"Talking to boys and young men about Andrew Tate and the manosphere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday 20 June 2023 QUT Centre for Justice hosted a panel discussion titled,<strong> &#8220;Talking to boys and young men about Andrew Tate and the manosphere&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This discussion featured five multi-disciplinary speakers:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Naomi Barnes<\/strong> (School of Teacher Education and Leadership) will explore issues of freedom of speech on social media, considering implications for young people\u2019s understandings about what people can and can\u2019t, should and shouldn\u2019t, say online, and whether it\u2019s ok to repeat those words and phrases at school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Lisa van Leent <\/strong>(School of Teacher Education and Leadership) will explore Andrew Tate\u2019s views considering the implications for young people\u2019s understandings about diverse genders and sexualities and for those who identify outside of binary gender and sexuality norms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Marilyn Campbell<\/strong> (School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education) is a registered teacher and a registered psychologist. Her main clinical and research interests are the prevention and intervention of anxiety disorders in young people and the effects of bullying, especially cyberbullying in schools. She will talk about boys and bullying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alice Elwell<\/strong> is a high school English teacher and PhD candidate.
