{"id":5462,"date":"2023-02-27T15:33:48","date_gmt":"2023-02-27T05:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/?p=5462"},"modified":"2023-02-27T15:33:48","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T05:33:48","slug":"research-profile-dr-gina-masterton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/2023\/02\/27\/research-profile-dr-gina-masterton\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Profile:  Dr Gina Masterton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUT Centre for Justice and Carumba Institute Indigenous Australian Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Gina Masterton, will speak at an<strong> International Women&#8217;s Day event<\/strong> for Moreton Bay Regional Council.\u00a0 \u00a0Gina will join a panel of local women as they discuss the ways they choose to challenge inequality.<\/p>\n<p>Gina&#8217;s research examines the experiences of women who have been &#8216;Hagued&#8217;: forced, through a court-facilitated process enabled by the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, to return children taken unlawfully across international borders.\u00a0 Gina&#8217;s research considers how the convention, which lacks specific mechanisms to account for family and domestic violence, is weaponised against women feeling such violence.<\/p>\n<p>More information about the event, including registration details, can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au\/libraries\/Events\/International-Womens-Day-RED\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gina has also been asked to present her research and publications on the Hague Convention to the <strong>Family Law Council.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>QUT Centre for Justice published a Briefing Paper around Gina&#8217;s research titled, <a href=\"https:\/\/eprints.qut.edu.au\/232450\/\">&#8220;Being Hagued:\u00a0 How weaponising the Hague Convention harms women, family and domestic violence survivors.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"ep_tm_pagetitle\"><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QUT Centre for Justice and Carumba Institute Indigenous Australian Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Gina Masterton, will speak at an International Women&#8217;s Day event for Moreton Bay Regional Council.\u00a0 \u00a0Gina will join a panel of local women as they discuss the ways they choose to challenge inequality.
