It asks how young women experience systems that were designed for males, with the aim of improving service delivery to young women and thereby reducing their contact with these systems.<\/p>\n<p>The project will provide an excellent opportunity for an emerging Indigenous scholar to build research skills and networks and to contribute to reducing the over-representation of Indigenous young women in the justice system.<\/p>\n<p>The project is a partnership between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qut.edu.au\/about\/social-responsibility\/reconciliation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">QUT<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unisa.edu.au\/about-unisa\/Aboriginal-education\/#:~:text=UniSA%20is%20committed%20to%20strengthening,Aboriginal%20People%20and%20their%20unique\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of South Australia<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anglicaresq.org.au\/first-nations\/#:~:text=Anglicare%20is%20committed%20to%20being,all%20facets%20of%20our%20organisation.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anglicare Southern Queensland<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglicare.com.au\/about-us\/reconciliation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anglicare NSW South, NSW West &amp; ACT<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anglicaresa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/STRETCH-Reconciliation-Action-Plan-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anglicare South Australia<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglicarewa.org.au\/who-we-are\/Our-Commitment-to-Reconciliation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anglicare Western Australia<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglicare-nt.org.au\/resource\/reconciliation-action-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anglicare Northern Territory<\/a>, all of which have a strong commitment to justice for Indigenous peoples. It will involve working with young women to design and conduct the research. It builds on a pilot project,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anglicaresq.org.au\/about-us\/advocacy\/youth-voices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Youth Voices<\/a>, which was co-designed with a group of Aboriginal and\/or Torres Strait Islander young people. She will have a tertiary qualification in a social science or related discipline (eg criminology, sociology, social work, psychology etc). Experience working in policy, research or practice in a justice-related or community services role (eg youth justice, domestic violence) would be beneficial; please contact us to discuss potential options.<\/p>\n<p>You\u00a0will be supervised by an experienced team of academics led by Associate Professor Kelly Richards (QUT). Kelly has extensive experience working with Aboriginal and\/or Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and communities. For example, she recently worked with Indigenous Elders on a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anrows.org.au\/project\/community-based-approaches-to-sexual-offender-reintegration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">project documenting the Elders\u2019 work reintegrating ex-prisoners<\/a>. The student will have access to culturally-safe support services from QUT\u2019s Carumba Institute. The School of Justice is committed to providing the applicant with opportunities to enhance the skills required to develop a strong academic career. We will offer the applicant a range of sessional appointments and\/or casual research assistant roles each year she is enrolled and in receipt of the scholarship. The details of the appointments will be negotiated subject to qualifications, experience and availability.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-youll-receive\">What you&#8217;ll receive<\/h2>\n<p>The School of Justice at Queensland University of Technology is seeking a full time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) student who identifies as both female and Aboriginal and\/or Torres Strait Islander to support an innovative three-year study of young women\u2019s contact with the youth justice and community services systems.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll receive a living allowance of $28,597 per annum for up to 1.5 years (MPhil) or three years (PhD) (tax exempt).<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship is for full-time study and can be used to support living costs.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"eligibility\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>Meet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qut.edu.au\/research\/study-with-us\/how-to-apply#Step_1_Entry_requirements\">QUT academic and English language entry requirements<\/a>\u00a0for the IF49 Doctor of Philosophy or IF80 Master of Philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>The provision of a scholarship is conditional on successful application and admission to the IF49 Doctor of Philosophy or IF80 Master of Philosophy course.
