The territory was once Mexico\u2019s, lost to the American\u2019s in the 1840 Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty. Today that border between Juarez, Mexico and El Paso Texas is divided by a heavily guarded iron wall.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/1-mex.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2585 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/1-mex-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/1-mex-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/1-mex.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">It is the site of considerable violence, between drug cartels, para military police and the systemic rape and murder of hundreds of young female maquiladora workers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/mex-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2586 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/mex-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/mex-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/files\/2017\/06\/mex-2.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Juarez has many monuments in the memory of these women, but none that memoralise the deaths of thousands of young men.
