Nowadays, in contemporary modern society environmental crime is changing due to various impacts of human development and progress. Thus, the fact that natural resources are limited is slowly changing the human attitude towards nature. This lecture will firstly present a brief development of green criminology through history and discuss contemporary tasks and interests of green criminology in Europe. Secondly, environmental crime phenomena, caused consequences, and characteristics of perpetrators will be discussed. Europe has some specific problems when it comes to environment protection, due to the powerful impact of industry (last such case was the (luckily unsuccessful) attempt to enforce the EU declaration for the privatization of water resources).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><strong>About the speaker:<\/strong>\u00a0Katja Eman, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor, Slovenia. She was a junior researcher (2009-2012) and finished Ph.D. studies in criminal justice and security with a dissertation on Crimes against the Environment \u2013 Comparative Criminological and Criminal Justice Perspectives. She co-edited first book on environmental crime in Slovenia entitled Environmental Crime and Environment Protection &#8211; Multidisciplinary Perspectives (orig. Ekolo\u0161ka kriminaliteta in varovanje okolja &#8211; multidisciplinarne perspektive).
