A large delegation of 15 members of the Ministry of Justice from Niger in Nigeria, visited the School of Justice, Faculty of the Law, over the past month. \u00a0Niger is the largest state in Nigeria and consists of about 4 million people.<\/p>\n

The group included the Attorney General, Magistrates, Justice professionals and the Head of a new unit to address gender violence. During their time in Brisbane they undertook a short course on justice, policy and governance with staff from the School of Justice, including Mark Lauchs, John Scott, Cass Cross, Matthew Ball, Wayne Delaforce, Russell Hogg, Claire Ferguson and Kerry Carrington.<\/p>\n

During their stay in Brisbane the delegation also undertook a number of site visits to the Attorney General, Director of Public Prosecutions, Juvenile Justice, State Coroner, Crown Law and State Parliament.<\/p>\n

John Scott, who taught the delegation, said,<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very excited to be working closely with this group, especially as the Attorney General of Niger has set an ambitious reform agenda for the State which includes legislative review and strategies to tackle corruption and domestic violence, which, of course, are issues with how have some familiarity with in Australian states.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
