{"id":2188,"date":"2017-01-10T11:55:22","date_gmt":"2017-01-10T01:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/?p=2188"},"modified":"2017-01-10T11:55:22","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T01:55:22","slug":"recently-published-the-problem-of-white-noise-examining-current-prevention-approaches-to-online-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.qut.edu.au\/crime-and-justice-research-centre\/2017\/01\/10\/recently-published-the-problem-of-white-noise-examining-current-prevention-approaches-to-online-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Recently Published &#8211; &#8220;The problem of \u201cwhite noise\u201d: examining current prevention approaches to online fraud&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/profile_images\/543215084311281665\/nta6lu_g.jpeg\" alt=\"Image result for cassandra cross\" width=\"175\" height=\"175\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">CJRC research <a href=\"http:\/\/staff.qut.edu.au\/staff\/raymentc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Cassandra Cross<\/a> from the School of Justice, Faculty of Law, has recently co-authored an article published in the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emeraldinsight.com\/toc\/jfc\/23\/4\" target=\"_blank\">Journal of Financial Crime<\/a>. <\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The article titled <em>&#8220;The problem of \u201cwhite noise\u201d: examining current prevention approaches to online fraud&#8221;<\/em> examines\u00a0the current prevention messages that exist\u00a0surrounding the prevention of online fraud. In particular, it focuses on the amount and level of detail that\u00a0is promoted for each type of potential fraudulent approach. The findings suggest\u00a0current prevention messages are characterised by a\u00a0large degree of detail about the various ways that (online) fraud can be perpetrated. This is argued to be\u00a0ineffective, based on the experiences of victims who were unable to apply their previous knowledge\u00a0about fraud to their experiences.
