QUT has recently been successful in securing a research grant through the Federal Government’s\u00a0Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR)<\/a>\u00a0and involves CJRC Adjunct Professor Victor Minichiello<\/a> and CJRC researcher Professor John Scott <\/a>from the School of Justice, Faculty of Law.<\/p>\n

The project will be conducted in partnership with\u00a0three Argentine universities including Univerisdad Nacional-del\u2014Litoral<\/a>, Universidad Nacional-delSud<\/a>, and Universidad Nacional-del-Quilmes.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

COALAR\u00a0was\u00a0established by the Australian Government in 2001 to enhance Australia\u2019s economic, political and social relations with Latin America.<\/p>\n

The Council’s objectives are the achievement of:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. enhanced and strengthened links between Australia and Latin America in the priority areas of business, education, sustainability, tourism and cultural promotion;<\/li>\n
  2. a closer engagement between corporate Australia with Latin America<\/li>\n
  3. an increased awareness and understanding of Australia in Latin America, and of Latin America in Australia.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/form>\n

    The successful project “Australia-Argentina higher education\/industry collaborative action network”<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 will bring together universities, government agencies and industry partners to discuss collaborations on a range of topics of national significance to both countries:\u00a0 ecological sustainability (including agribusiness, water management) and social resilience (including rural health, disability, numeracy and addressing youth crime).<\/p>\n

    Using an action plan methodology at a workshop held in Brisbane with over 25 institutional partners, specific projects will be identified, milestones identified and stakeholders\/timelines set. While the initially projects will involve Australia and Argentina, some will have transferability to other Latin American nations.\u00a0 A website will be developed to describe and monitor the projects that will be implemented during 2017.<\/p>\n
