QUT Centre for Justice members from School of Teacher Education and Leadership have had great research impact recently.
Australian Law Reform Commission:
A/Prof Lisa van Leent led a submission to the Australian Law Reform Commission with Dr Michelle Jeffries, Dr Naomi Barnes and Dr Steph Jowett (School of Law). It was today tabled in the Commonwealth Parliament by the Attorney General and published online . The ‘Maximising the Realisation of Human Rights: Religious Educational Institutions and Anti-Discrimination Laws’, final report references the STEL led submission 9 times with one direct reference.
Qld Parliament:
EPEL (represented by A/Prof Anna Hogan, Prof Greg Thompson and Dr Naomi Barnes) were called to the Queensland Parliament on Monday March 18th as witnesses to the Education (General Provisions) (Helping Families with School Costs) Amendment Bill 2023. EPEL is the Education Policy and Evaluation Lab led by A/Prof Hogan.
A/Prof Hogan, Prof Thompson and Dr Naomi Barnes were asked questions about private income in public schools, including the fees and contributions paid by families, and the fundraising activities of P&Cs. They were able to clarify understandings about ICSEA and relative advantage, and ‘core’ curriculum and services needing to be demarcated from ‘extra/co-curricular’ programs.
A number of these researchers will be presenting at the upcoming Education Justice Lightning Talk being held next Tuesday.
