Yesterday QUT Centre for Justice farewelled Professor Melissa Bull as Centre Director of QUT Centre for Justice.
Melissa has led the Centre since its inception in 2020. Under Melissa’s leadership the Centre has grown to become a true interdisciplinary research centre with membership across all faculties of QUT. Under Melissa’s leadership research funding has grown by 32%. Melissa has overseen the development of 7 DECRA’s, 1 Future Fellowship, 3 Centre Research Groups, an annual Winter School for our HDR students, a comprehensive internal and external engagement program, and the development of a Briefing Paper Series which has published 47 papers to date. The Centre also enjoys strong partnerships with other QUT Research Centres, industry, government and international networks.
We wish Melissa all the very best as she sets off on new adventures in her retirement.
Today we welcome Professor Rowena Maguire (pictured) as our new Centre Director. Rowena has been an active research leader within the Centre and has a strong understanding and appreciation for what we do. She is an outstanding interdisciplinary scholar with an inspiring international reputation and extensive network.
Rowena comes from the Faculty of Business and Law at QUT and researches across the areas of climate governance focusing on gender, social inclusion and effectiveness, and also the just transition to a circular economy. In her work on climate governance, Rowena draws upon her legal background to analyse how climate laws, policies and climate financing structures produce unintended consequences increasing inequality and vulnerability in a changing climate. Rowena’s work on circular economy explores the social and environmental issues across supply chains including waste, carbon emissions, modern slavery, and the role of regulatory mechanisms in the transition.
We are excited to see what surprising alliances and connections Rowena will make in this new role.
QUT Centre for Justice looks forward to continuing our positive and productive work with you.
